Competition agencies interested in new ex ante powers to police digital markets need not copy “western examples” of those laws, a senior official at Japan’s Fair Trade Commission has said. Rei Kataoka today touted Japan’s Smartphone Software Competition Promotion Act for not introducing “new legal frameworks for litigation processes or specification proceedings”. Also in The Briefing, Apple faces another class action in the UK and Canada’s Competition Bureau once again asks the government to look out for anticompetitive regulations.
