Yulimar Rojas will compete in the triple jump in Venezuela, marking the Olympic gold medallist’s first competition in her home country for a decade.
The 29-year-old athletics star from Caracas will take to the sand in her hometown stadium of the Estadio Brígido Iriarte de El Paraíso, which hosts the third stop of the Venezuelan national athletics league.
Rojas comes back to competition on Saturday (27 September), nine days after taking the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. That marked her return after two years out with the fifth world medal of her career.
The Olympic gold medallist said in Spanish on social media, “I want to invite everyone who wants to see me again and enjoy live athletics to come to the Brígido Iriarte on Saturday. I am really looking forward to being with you and to enjoy this experience together.”
The last time Rojas competed in Venezuela, she prevailed with a jump of 6.25m in Barquisimeto back in May 2015. Since then, the Caracas native has won gold at the South American Championships, the World Championships and the Olympic Games, among her long list of accolades.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion will be in action on Saturday, 27 September at 17:00 local time (GMT-4), where fans will be able to watch their home hero for free in the Venezuelan capital.
