Weather is always a storyline at the Ryder Cup, and this year’s competition at Bethpage Black is no exception. With passionate New York crowds and one of the most demanding courses in golf, conditions can play a major role in shaping momentum and strategy.

Here’s the latest look at how the weather could impact play this week.

Thursday

The weather headline of the day is rain, rain, go away. There’s at least a 60 percent chance of rain throughout the day as temperatures stay in the low to mid 70s. The afternoon has the greatest chance for severe weather we’ll see this week as storms capable of producing wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph move into the metro New York area.

Friday

The weather turns for the better starting on Friday morning as the Ryder Cup begins. We’ll see temps with a low of 64 degrees and a high of 79 degrees. Showers should taper off by around 5 am and patchy fog should burn off prior to 8 am. Winds expected at 5-10 mph in the morning, jumping up to 10-15 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday

A chance of rain remains in the forecast at 20 percent, but we should see partly sunny conditions ideal for competition. Temperatures should see a low of 62 and high of 76 degrees. Winds will be calm in the morning at 3 to 8 mph and be a touch heavier in the afternoon at 7 to 12 mph. An isolated shower is possible in the afternoon.

Sunday

Overnight into Sunday has a 50 percent chance of rain but those showers should clear out in the morning and make way for good conditions for golf as singles matches get underway. There’s a potential for spotty showers in the afternoon but otherwise ideal conditions with temperatures rising to 74 degrees and winds in the 10 to 15 mph range in the afternoon.
