Diljit Dosanjh opens up on India-Pak matches after Sardaarji 3 controversy

Singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh has joined the list of celebrities sharing their views on the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup matches that were held in the UAE. During his recent concert in Kuala Lumpur, Diljit Dosanjh addressed the ‘Sardaarji 3’ controversy and also commented on the ongoing matches, despite the nation’s stance against terrorism.

Dosanjh faced heavy criticism for working with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. During the concert, he told the audience that while he had “a lot of answers,” he had chosen to stay silent. He even explained how the film was shot before the attack. However, the India-Pakistan matches are being played now.

Speaking in Punjabi to a packed international audience, Diljit clarified the timeline, saying, “When my film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ was shot in February, the matches were being played. After that, the tragic Pahalgam terror attack happened. At that time, and even now, we have always prayed that the terrorists receive the strictest punishment.”

Dosanjh, who remained silent amid the controversy, told the crowd, “I have many answers, but I kept quiet, kept everything inside me. Whoever tells you anything, you shouldn’t take that poison inside you. I’ve learned that from life. There are a lot more things to say, but I don’t want to say them.”

Towards the end of his speech, the ‘Lover’ singer also addressed being labelled ‘anti-national’ by certain sections of media. “The national media tried their best to label me anti-national. But Punjabis and the Sikh community can never go against the nation,” he added.

Earlier, calls to boycott the Asia Cup matches between India and Pakistan had emerged online. Families of the Pahalgam terror attack victims echoed the growing sentiment, questioning thee government’s decision to allow the match to proceed. Politicians, influencers, actors and citizens from across the country joined in calling for a boycott.

Indians questioned the government and the cricketing body BCCI as to why a match with Pakistan was being played even as terrorists from the Islamic Republic killed 26 people in Pahalgam, and it was just a few months since the two countries were engaged in a war.
