India cricket team loses to England

The Indian cricket team lost to England by 153 runs in their Women’s World Cup 2025 warm-up at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored with 120 for England, while Jemimah Rodrigues (66 off 68 balls) was India’s standout batter. Kranti Goud finished with figures of 3/31 with the ball.

The hosts, who had rested heavy hitters like Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur to offer other members of the squad some game time, were given a target of 341 to chase.

Harleen Deol was the first Indian batter to fall after being adjudged LBW in the third over.

Jemimah Rodrigues, who was the skipper for the match, joined Uma Chetry at the crease and forged a 68-run stand before Chetry was dismissed by Linsey Smith. Richa Ghosh was also run out soon after.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the next to fall after scoring a fifty and her dismissal opened the floodgates for England as Sophie Ecclestone struck twice in quick succession to remove Sneh Rana and Kranti Goud in the 30th over.

England needed another four overs to bundle out the rest of the Indian team, with Arundhati Reddy absent hurt.

Earlier in the day, India won the toss and chose to field first. The hosts also struck early when Renuka Singh removed Tammy Beaumont in the opening over.

Amy Jones and Heather Knight steadied England with a 58-run stand before Arundhati Reddy dismissed the former with the first ball of the 13th over.

However, Reddy’s joy was short-lived as just three balls later, she collapsed awkwardly on her left leg while attempting a return catch off Knight and had to be wheeled off the field for treatment.

Knight, given a reprieve in that over, could not fully capitalise and was run out in the 21st over with England on 104/3.

Her dismissal brought Emma Lamb to the crease, who joined skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt for a match-defining 173-run partnership that shifted the contest firmly in England’s favour.

Sciver-Brunt made a masterful 104-ball 120 before she retired out while Lamb scored a composed 84 as the English duo dominated the middle overs.

Though India fought back late with four wickets in the death overs, England finished with a daunting total of 340/9.

India will take on New Zealand at the same venue in their second warm-up match on Saturday.
