Great cars can be inspirational.
Take, for example, the Lamborghini Diablo. Swiss Importer Roland Affolter was so taken by the successor to the Countach, that he decided to commission his own special version. And now, one of the 10 cars he had modified is heading to auction via Broad Arrow.
The Diablo was given an impossible task: replacing a car that had spent the previous two decades as the definitive supercar. Against all odds, it was up for it. That’s because Lamborghini allowed the vehicle, which had a typically bold design and massive 12-cylinder mill sitting in the engine bay, to stand on its own. The Diablo was the first Raging Bull to feature all-wheel drive and the first of its V-12s available as an open-top variant (the VT Roadster). It was also available, for the 11 years it was on the market, exclusively as a stick shift.

Affolter, who knew a thing or two about Lambos due to his role as Switzerland’s official importer of the marque’s vehicles, saw something he wanted to put his stamp on, according to CarScoops. So, he commissioned a run of ten modified Diablos that would be called the Evolution GTR. The cars featured the same 5.7-liter V-12 found in the factory model but wore a revised exterior. The changes, which were made primarily to improve aerodynamic performance, include rounded headlights, a giant roof scoop, and an even bigger wraparound spoiler.
The example up for auction is finished in a stunning coat of Viola. The sparkling purple hue, which can also be found on the wheels, accentuates the changes made to the Diablo design. The interior, meanwhile, is covered floor-to-headliner in rich blue Alcantara. The listing doesn’t include any performance numbers, but the car’s V-12 is capable of making 485 hp and 428 ft lbs of torque. There were AWD Diablos, but the Evolution GTR’s mill sends all its power to the rear axle. This one appears to be in good shape. In addition to having just 21,107 miles on the odometer, it was also freshly serviced by Lamborghini itself.
