Oasis concert fans told of Greater Anglia train delays on Sunday

Oasis fans have been warned of rail delays in Essex that could affect their journey to Wembley Stadium.

Network Rail said works between Shenfield and Chadwell Heath in east London would impact those headed to the London gig on Sunday.

A rail that allowed trains to switch lines near Gidea Park station had become faulty and needed to be replaced, the operator explained.

“We are really sorry for the disruption this is going to cause to passengers at short notice,” said infrastructure director Simon Milburn.

Rail replacement buses will run between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield on Sunday due to the works, with no Greater Anglia trains running.

Buses will also run instead of trains between the two stations for passengers wanting to use the Elizabeth line.

A sleeper that holds the rails in place near Gidea Park has also been found to have deteriorated and become in need of replacement.

“Our engineers have been keeping a very close eye on the faulty rail and sleeper, and the repair now can’t wait any longer,” Mr Milburn added.

“This work will help us to avoid a much more disruptive speed restriction or prolonged line closure in future.”

Further engineering work has also been planned by Network Rail across both Saturday and Sunday.

It means buses will replace trains on Ipswich and Harwich services to and from Colchester.
