Carey Mulligan’s relationship with Prada goes back nearly two decades, after she first broke onto the scene as Kitty Bennet in Joe Wright’s 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. “They were really the first people who ever dressed me for anything, and they made my wedding dress,” the actor tells Vogue, while on her way to Prada’s spring 2026 show at Milan Fashion Week. “They feel like family to me. I always just feel really at home, and really myself [in] their clothes.”
Wedding dress aside, it’s a partnership that’s brought us Mulligan’s 2010 Oscars dress featuring miniature cooking utensils. “It was just so kooky, and weird and wonderful,” she recalls. “That’s probably my favorite.” Then there was her gold and silver paillette Met Gala dress from 2012, and her first campaign for Prada earlier this year, which was shot by Steven Meisel and saw her embody multiple characters. “I absolutely loved the storytelling that went into it. All of those looks and those wigs, and the incredible makeup that Pat McGrath did. That was an incredible experience to make that,” Mulligan says.
For her look for today’s show, though, the actor is peeling back the layers and sticking to her personal style mantra: staying comfortable. “This is the comfiest I’ve ever been going to anything in my career, I think,” she says of her oversized blue shirt and ivory silk jacket, teamed with black tailored trousers, black satin pumps, and the ivory Dada bag. “I just feel the best when I’m comfortable—not just for when I’m slouching around the house, but for dinner or going to an event [too]. I always just want to feel [like] a slightly more polished version.”
After catching up with friends including Maya Hawke (“who bizarrely played my daughter in Maestro”) and Kerry Washington on the front row, it’s back home for Mulligan, who has been busy working on Greta Gerwig’s hotly anticipated Narnia film. “I’ve always wanted to work with Greta—I think she’s one of the best filmmakers working today,” the actor says. “And [being] in a children’s film has been a big career goal, so I’m really excited.”
