Mega Evolution has been present on Aeos Island since Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y first joined the fray over two years ago, bringing a new, exciting dimension to battles in Pokémon UNITE. Now, Mega Evolution is going to get even more exciting, with Mega Lucario making its debut on September 28, 2025, and Mega Charizard X soaring into action on October 24, 2025. These two Mega-Evolving Pokémon will be available exclusively via Mega Evolution Unite licenses—which are distinct from regular Unite licenses—with two more Mega Evolution Unite licenses being added later this year.
With the Mega Evolution Unite licenses for Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X, you’ll be able to Mega Evolve each’s Pokémon after using its Unite Move in battle. These Pokémon Mega Evolve for a short amount of time to have drastically improved stats and moves, swinging the tide of battle in your favor. And unlike their standard Unite license counterparts, who can choose moves from two tracks, Mega Evolution Unite license Pokémon will also be limited to a single fixed moveset, making for a unique experience.
The introduction of Mega Evolution Unite licenses brings not only more Mega-Evolved Pokémon but also a change in team restrictions. Currently, Mewtwo that can Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X and Mewtwo that can Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y cannot be on the same team together, but following the release of Mega Lucario, players on the same team will be able to select both Mewtwo without limitation. All future Mega Evolution Unite licenses will follow this same rule, so two players on the same team will be able to select Lucario and Mega Lucario and so forth. Also, like Mewtwo that can Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, all Mega Evolution Unite license Pokémon will be limited to two held item slots, with one occupied by the appropriate Mega Stone.
To celebrate the introduction of Mega Evolution Unite licenses, Pokémon UNITE will hold a special event from October 3, 2025, to October 27, 2025, in which you can complete designated missions to earn the Unite license for Mega Lucario! If you’re not able to earn Mega Lucario’s Unite license during this event, it will be available at the Unite Battle Committee shop in exchange for either Aeos coins or Aeos gems.
We hope you enjoy battling with Mega Evolution on Aeos Island, Trainers!
