Another busy week, including Tokyo Game Show, means there’s plenty of news across the gaming and film worlds you may have missed. Let’s take a look at this week’s recap:
Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser Steps Down
After six years of leading Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser announced he is retiring as president and COO on December 31. Devon Pritchard will succeed him in the role. She is “a 19-year veteran of the video game industry and long-standing member of the NOA leadership team,” Nintendo said in a news release.
Nintendo’s Satoru Shibata will also join Nintendo of America as CEO as he continues in his role as Managing Executive Office and Corporate Director, Member of the Board at Nintendo Co., Ltd.
“One of my earliest video game experiences was playing the arcade version of Donkey Kong,” Bowser said in the news release. “Since that time, all things Nintendo have continued to be a passion for both me and my family. Leading Nintendo of America has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers.
“Now, it’s time for the next generation of leadership and Devon’s track record speaks for itself. She is an exceptional leader, and her promotion is a testament to her strong performance and strategic contributions to the company’s growth. I have full confidence that she will guide the company to even greater heights.”
‘Forza Horizon 6’ Teaser Trailer Revealed
We learned at Xbox Tokyo Game Show that Forza Horizon 6 is, indeed, on the horizon and is set in Japan for the first time ever. Developers said Japan is one of the most requested location from fans.
The latest in the longtime series will release on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2026 on Xbox Game Pass. It will eventually also launch on PlayStation 5
‘Beyond the Spiderverse’ Release Moves UP
It’s always good news when a release date moves up, especially for a long-awaited next entry is a blockbuster series. Well, we’re going to get Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse a tad earlier than previously announced — now hitting theaters on June 18, 2027.
The jump isn’t giant as the film was last slated to release on June 25, but the new dates moves the movie to release on Father’s Day weekend (perfect to enjoy with your kiddos!).
‘Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Next Free Update Drops on October 1
The “Return to Beast’s Castle” drops on Disney Dreamlight Valley on October 1, taking players on the nostalgic journey back to Beast’s iconic castle to meet up with classic characters like Lumiere and Cogsworth.
Along with the free update, players will get access to the “Once Upon a Dance” bundle in the premium shop that includes dream styles for Bella and Beast, along with other shop additions like the Witchy Kitty companion, and first-ever Dream Castle Skin perfect for Halloween.
The “Witchful Thinking” Star Path will also include furniture, outfits and decorations perfect for spooky season. Players will also get to experience the return of the Trick of Treat event from October 15 to 31.
The Haunting Floating Festivals will kick off on October 22 and players will have until November 11 to solve all the puzzles (which will unlock over time) to score an exclusive reward.
‘The Woman in Cabin 10 ‘ Official Trailer
The upcoming Netflix psychological thriller The Woman in Cabin 10 got an official trailer drop this week ahead of its October 10 premiere date!
While on board a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told that it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for. Despite no one believing her, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Releases in February
To celebrate the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series’ 20th anniversary, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are giving fans “a two-in-one experience created under the concept, ‘A legend is reborn and a new legacy begins.’”
The full remake of Yakuza 3 will come with Dark Ties, described as “a new, never-before-seen story for one of Yakuza 3’s antagonists, Yoshitaka Mine, included as a separate game.”
Yakuza Kiwami 3 tells the story of Kazuma Kiryu and his adoptive daughter Haruka Sawamura who have planted roots in the tropical Japanese prefecture of Okinawa to run the Morning Glory Orphanage. But when both the government and the yakuza set their sights on beachfront property, Kiryu finds that to defend the things he cares about, he must fight and sacrifice. Can Kiryu rescue the orphanage and escape his past for good?
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties will release on all consoles and PC on February 12, 2026.
‘Lost Bus’ Trailer Ahead of October 3 Release
Apple Original Films released the trailer for the upcoming thriller Lost Bus. It will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 3.
Directed by Academy Award-nominee Paul Greengrass and inspired by real events, The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward school bus driver (Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award-winner America Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.
Destiny 2’s First Epic Raid Launched Today
The epic raid for The Desert Perpetual launched today! The raid launched into “Contest Mode” for the first 48 hours which is more difficult and caps player power and makes enemies more aggressive. The loot pool is updated for the Contest Mode, and the first clear will drop Tier 5 gear, and completing all encounters grants an exclusive emblem, the raid Exotic, and its catalyst.
Players who complete The Desert Perpetual epic raid before December 5, 2025, at 11:59 am CST will unlock the Bungie Rewards offer to purchase the Desert Perpetual Epic Raid Ring.
‘The Beatles Anthology’ Documentary Series Gets New Entry, Disney+ Streaming Date
The Beatles Anthology returns three decades after it first launched, restored and remastered for when it beings streaming on Disney+ on November 26.
The 8-part anthology is getting a brand new 9th episode, that will include “unseen behind-the-scenes footage of Paul, George and Ringo coming together between 1994 and 1995 to work on “The Anthology” and reflecting on their shared life as The Beatles,” Disney said in a news release.
First released three decades ago, The Beatles’ eight-part “Anthology” series reinvented the music documentary. Instead of a standard treatment centred on an outside narrator and talking heads, “The Anthology” featured John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr candidly telling their own story, with all its complexities and contradictions. It introduced The Beatles to new generations of viewers and listeners and marked the start of a creative and commercial afterlife that continues to this day.
‘Chad Powers’ Premieres Next Week
Chad Powers, starring Glen Powell, with premiere on Hulu on September 30. The six-episode series will air the first two episodes and Hulu will release new episodes weekly on Tuesdays.
Eight years after an unforgivable mistake nukes his promising college football career, hotshot quarterback Russ Holliday tries to resurrect his dreams by disguising himself as Chad Powers – a talented oddball who walks on to the struggling South Georgia Catfish.
Hulu’s half-hour comedy “Chad Powers,” from co-creators and executive producers Glen Powell and Michael Waldron. Eli Manning serves as executive producer along with Omaha Productions’ Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown and ESPN’s Burke Magnus, Brian Lockhart, Kati Fernandez. Waldron and Adam Fasullo are executive producing for Anomaly Pictures. Luvh Rakhe will executive produce and Tony Yacenda will serve as director and executive producer. The series stars Powell, who is also co-creating, co-writing and executive producing under his production co-banner Barnstorm Productions.
‘The Social Network’ Sequel Gets Release Date
Sony Pictures is slated to release The Social Reckoning on October 9, 2026, starring Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong. The sequel, set 17 years after the events of The Social Network, will come from director Aaron Sorkin, whose script for the original 2010 movie netted him an Oscar.
The Chosen Adventure First Trailer
Prime Video released the trailer and art for the new Biblical animated series The Chosen Adventure, set to release on October 17. All 14 episodes will release on premiere day.
The Chosen Adventures follows nine-year-old Abby and her best friend Joshua as they navigate life in the ancient city of Capernaum. When the children encounter a wise craftsman and teacher, Jesus of Nazareth, he changes the way they see the world. And did we mention that she has a talking sheep?
