Twitch launches Rewind feature: Here’s what it is and how it will work

Twitch has announced the rollout of a much-awaited Rewind feature. The new feature enable viewers to go back and replay missed moments during livestreams. The feature, which has been one of the most requested by the platform’s community, is launching first on desktop this week. The new Rewind button allow users to directly jump to the older parts of the stream in case you have missed on to any particular moment or missed.

How the Rewind feature works

The all-new Rewind button allows users to instantly revisit earlier parts of a stream without leaving the broadcast. Earlier, viewers had to wait for a streamer’s VOD (video on demand) to be uploaded to catch up on missed content. With Rewind, fans can now rewatch, clip, or highlight moments directly from the live stream. The Rewind feature is exclusive to Twitch Turbo subscribers and individual channel subscribers. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy explained that restricting access initially helps prevent users from exploiting the feature to skip ads. The company has confirmed plans to expand Rewind to all users in the future, including on the Twitch mobile app.

Streamer requirements

Streamers must enable Rewind in their settings, which requires VODs to be turned on. Because of this, the feature won’t be available for certain categories, such as DJ channels, where VODs are typically disabled.

Why it matters

The addition of Rewind marks a significant upgrade to Twitch’s live viewing experience. It empowers fans to stay engaged without missing key moments — whether it’s a clutch gaming play, a streamer’s reaction, or a viral clip. For creators, it also means more opportunities for engagement and content sharing in real time.
