PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Columbia field hockey was shut out by No. 19 Rutgers, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions (3-4, 0-2) managed just five shots with one on goal. Jacinta Solari Etcheberry recorded Columbia’s lone shot on goal, which came in the third quarter. Sophia Abate tallied three shots and Sam Petrucco also got a shot off.
Columbia goalkeeper Margot Houle stopped nine shots, including four in the opening quarter. Rutgers (6-4, 1-0) scored in each quarter and posted a four-spot in the third period.
Puck Winter and Olivia Fraticelli each scored twice for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers held the penalty corners advantage, 7-2.
The Lions visit Dartmouth on Friday at 3 p.m. before hosting Hofstra next Sunday at 1 p.m. for Alumni Day.
