Survey of flood losses in Punjab to be completed in a month: Khawaja Salman

LAHORE, Sep 28 (APP):Punjab Minister for Health and Chairman Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management, Khawaja Salman Rafique, has said that the survey of flood-related losses in the province will be completed transparently within one month. He added that compensation will be provided to the affected families through Punjab Bank.

He expressed these views on Sunday while attending the Qul Khwani ceremony of PDMA officer Shaheed Abdul Rehman, who embraced martyrdom while performing duty during floods. The minister attended the ceremony on the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and conveyed her condolence message to the bereaved family. On behalf of the chief minister, he also handed over a cheque of Rs. 10 million in financial assistance to the father of the martyr.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Shaheed Abdul Rehman, “the crown jewel of the Punjab government,” will be honored every year on September 22 as his memorial day. He added that the services of martyr AC Furqan Ahmed and PDMA officer Abdul Rehman would never be forgotten. The minister also announced that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would provide an additional Rs. 2 million to the family, while advance preparations have been initiated to counter floods in the coming years.

On the occasion, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia announced financial aid of Rs. 1 million and a job for the martyr’s brother. Member Punjab Assembly Asghar Hayat Hiraj, Deputy Commissioner Khanewal Dr. Salma Suleman, along with a large number of PDMA officials, district administration officers, and local residents, also attended the ceremony.
