LAWRENCE, Kan. – Arizona fell to No. 18 Kansas in three sets (15-25, 22-25, 19-25) on Sunday in Lawrence. The Wildcats dropped to 7-5 (1-1 Big 12) following the loss.
Arizona recorded seven blocks and served six aces, but Kansas had nine blocks to hold the Wildcats to a .109 hitting percentage. Carlie Cisneros led the Cats with seven kills and Adrianna Bridges followed with five kills and five blocks.
Kansas won the first set, 25-15. After keeping the set close for the first half, the Jayhawks used a 5-0 run to pull ahead of the Wildcats. Cisneros and Jordan Wilson had two kills each and the Cats served four aces but Kansas tallied four blocks to hold back Arizona.
The Wildcats fell in the second set, 22-25, to give Kansas the 2-0 lead in the match. Arizona held the lead for the first half of the match until Kansas used well-timed runs to take the lead at 22-21. Bridges served two aces and Ana Heath had three kills for Arizona but the Jayhawks tallied three blocks and 14 kills to win the set.
Kansas took the third set, 25-19, to win the match. Although the Cats had four blocks in the set, the Jayhawks served two aces and two blocks to hold Arizona to a .163 hitting percentage. Arizona was able to tie the set eight times before Kansas pulled away on a 4-0 run late in the set. Cisneros led the offense with three kills while a trio of Cats had two kills each. Bridges tallied three kills and Avery Scoggins had two blocks to help the defense.
Arizona will return home to host Utah on Thursday, October 2 at 6 p.m. MST in McKale Center. The match will be televised on FS1.
