The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed reports circulating on social and mainstream media suggesting an extension in the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025.
The FBR clarified that the deadline remains unchanged and will not be extended beyond September 30, 2025.
In an official statement, the FBR described the rumors as “false, baseless, and misleading,” and noted that some reports had incorrectly linked the supposed extension to recent floods. The tax authority stated that most taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and have had sufficient time to fulfill their tax obligations.
The FBR also rejected claims that its IRIS online filing system is experiencing slowdowns, stating that the platform is fully operational and that taxpayers can file returns using the new simplified form without difficulty.
Taxpayers were cautioned that missing the deadline will result in late-filer status and penalties under the law. The FBR urged all eligible individuals to file their returns accurately and honestly before the September 30 deadline.
However, the FBR noted that in cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may apply for an extension of up to fifteen days, provided they pay any due taxes by September 30 and receive approval from the relevant committee as per legal requirements.
