The first installment of this series reviewing vital statistics from the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES looked back at races, with the second looking at pole winners and qualifying.

Now, it’s time to look at race records and other miscellaneous stats in the last part of this series.

LAP LEADERS, PASSING

  • Thirty drivers led laps in 2025, an INDYCAR SERIES record.
  • Records for most race leaders were broken at:
    • World Wide Technology Raceway
    • Road America
    • Nashville Superspeedway
  • There were 4,991 on-track passes in 2025, with a season-high 685 recorded at the Milwaukee Mile.
  • Six on-track passing records were broken at three racetracks:
    • Streets of Detroit
    • World Wide Technology Raceway
    • Nashville Superspeedway

TRACK ACTIVITY

  • On all tracks during all sessions, 108,306 laps were turned and 200,255 miles completed. The mileage total equals roughly eight times around the world at the equator.

RACE-BY-RACE RECORDS, MILESTONES, NOTABLES

  • The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding featured:
    • Seven different race leaders – one shy of the all-time event record.
    • Nine lead changes – the most in seven years.
  • The Thermal Club INDYCAR Grand Prix featured:
    • The most passes for position (208) on record for an all-green flag road/street circuit race.
  • The 50th edition of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach featured:
    • A modern event record of more than 200,000 fans for the weekend.
    • Nine lead changes – most in 13 years.
    • More on-track passes than in 2024.
  • The Children’s of Alabama Grand Prix powered by AmFirst featured:
    • The first all-green flag event at physically demanding Barber Motorsports Park.
    • A third consecutive 2025 race of all-green flag racing for the first time since 1986.
  • The Sonsio Grand Prix featured:
    • Experimental new tire rule mandating two sets of primaries and alternates.
  • The 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge featured:
    • Third-fastest Indy 500 field in history.
      • The last three Indy 500s have featured the three fastest “500” fields.
    • 14 different lap leaders – tied for third-most in race history.
  • The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear featured:
    • A Streets of Detroit circuit record 261 on-track passes.
      • Most on-track passes on a street circuit in nearly three years (Nashville, 2022).
    • A 33-race event-record 181 passes for position.
  • The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline featured:
    • 485 on-track passes and a record-tying 254 on-track passes for position (2024).
    • An event-record 14 different leaders.
    • A podium consisting of three former INDY NXT by Firestone champions.
    • Nine race teams represented in the top 10 of the finishing order.
  • The XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR featured:
    • A race-record nine different leaders.
    • The second-most passing numbers, on record, at Road America.
      • 348 on-track passes
      • 345 passes for position
      • 96 passes in the top 10
      • 29 passes in the top five
  • The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the All-New 2026 Passport featured:
    • Closest finish at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in six years (.4201 of a second, Scott Dixon over Alex Palou).
  • The Sukup INDYCAR Race Weekend featured:
    • Closest finish of the season and closest green-flag finish at Iowa in 18 years (Race 1, .2352 of a second, Pato O’Ward over Josef Newgarden)
  • The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto featured:
    • 226 on-track passes – most on the Streets of Toronto in nine years.
    • Fourth-most on record at the circuit.
  • The Java House Grand Prix of Monterey featured:
    • 20% increased attendance over 2024 at the iconic facility under new management dedicated to revitalization.
  • The BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland presented by askROI featured:
    • Four-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou clinching the championship.
    • 242 on-track passes (200 for position) – second-most on record at PIR.
  • The Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 featured:
    • A dramatic and exciting first-time winner and the first first-time winner since the Streets of Toronto in 2023. Christian Rasmussen became the 299th driver in series history to win a race.
    • 685 on-track passes (306 for position) – second-most on record for INDYCAR at the Milwaukee Mile.
  • The Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix presented by WillScot featured:
    • A race-record 12 leaders and 20 lead changes.
    • Three on-track passing records:
      • 284 passes for position
      • 130 passes in the top 10
      • 74 passes in the top five
