What Jane Goodall Told Us About How To Make An Impact

I came out of a three-hour-long judging session for Forbes’ 30 Under 30 food list to news that the legendary Jane Goodall had died at age 91.

I was so moved hearing her speak at the Forbes Sustainability Leadership Summit last Monday—as she implored the audience to “have courage”—and especially now I feel truly honored to have heard her message.

“If they really feel that it’s important to do the right thing, they need to have courage,” the renowned primatologist said. “This particular time we’re living through, there’s too much lack of courage.”

Last week, her final call to action was just as inspiring, and it’s especially so now: “Just think that today, and tomorrow and the next day, each day you’re going to be making some kind of impact. Think and choose wisely what sort of impact you make.”

IPO Watch: Once Upon A Farm officially filed for an IPO on Monday, as the organic baby food brand cofounded by actress Jennifer Garner wades into a tepid market that has, as Reuters reports, “picked up in recent months, reversing a slowdown earlier in the year when trade-policy uncertainty curbed momentum.” The natural foods leader, helmed by former Annie’s chief executive John Foraker, reported six-month revenue, ending June 30, at $110.6 million, up from $65.8 million the year prior.

The World’s 50 Best released its annual list of the top restaurants in North America, and I’m thrilled to see many of my favorites on it, including Kono, Via Carota and Le Veau D’Or in New York City, Holbox and Kato in Los Angeles and Moon Rabbit in Washington, D.C. (I must try Dōgon, from 30 Under 30 alum chef Kwame Onwanchi, on my next visit!)
