Today, we welcome more than 5,000 delegates from across the globe to the XXV FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics, opening Sunday, 5 October 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa.
From Sunday 5 October to Thursday 9 October, our first Congress held in Africa since 2009 will offer exceptional opportunities for in-person learning and collaboration – an ideal setting to learn, connect and build momentum for improving women’s and girls’ health worldwide.
FIGO looks forward to using Cape Town 2025 to celebrate progress made over the past two years, including the development of strategic partnerships. I am proud of the commitment to the continuous advancement of leadership, technical competencies, patient health literacy, social accountability geared for positive experiences and the implementation of evidence-based best practice policy and advocacy. Whilst Cape Town 2025 is a global convenor, the scientific programme offers the opportunity to aid the transition from a global to local focus for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), reflecting the context of country needs.
– Professor Kihara Anne-Beatrice, FIGO President (2023-2025)
This year’s rich scientific programme will bring together more than 500 global experts and voices covering cutting-edge advances, innovations, and urgent challenges.
Key themes and topics will include:
- maternal and newborn health: respectful care, preterm birth, reducing mortality and morbidity
- sexual and reproductive health and rights: contraception, safe abortion, assisted reproductive technology
- surgery and oncology: women’s cancer prevention and treatment, fistula repair, pelvic floor disorders
- gynaecology across the life course: menopause, endometriosis, paediatric/adolescent gynaecology
- global women’s health and policy: transgender care, migrant/refugee health, climate change’s impact on women’s health.
Delegates will have access to more workshops, simulation labs and surgical video classrooms across key clinical areas. Whether it’s maternal foetal medicine, clinical obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, or emerging technologies in topics like reproductive health, the goal is to ensure people leave with both knowledge and practical competence.
– Congress Organising Committee Chair, Professor Paul Fogarty
Attendees will also enjoy hands-on simulation labs and interactive workshops. The FIGO Film Festival is also back, showcasing short films spanning surgical techniques, advocacy stories and real-world impact.
In the days ahead, we will collaborate to build a future where women across the world enjoy the highest standards of health and wellbeing throughout their lives. With a programme that bridges medical expertise and vital social discourse, this gathering will unite obstetricians, gynaecologists, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals, while embracing broader conversations on rights, justice and innovation.
