The new MateBook Fold and Pro laptops are now thought to be joined by a 2-in-1 alternative soon. The PC might be touted as the ideal companion to a user’s Huawei smartphone or laptop as it will be able to use all of the exact same apps, files and features thanks to the latest version of HarmonyOS. It could also be powered by one of the OEM’s new Kirin X-series chipsets.

Having successfully released a new challenger to the ThinkPad X1 Fold in 2025, Huawei is now reportedly thinking about augmenting its MateBook portfolio with a rival for the latest Microsoft Surface Pro convertible PC.

The new “MateBook E” could integrate with a user’s new MateBook Pro or Pura 80 Ultra better than ever before by dropping Windows for HarmonyOS 5, touted to make mobile, smartphone or PC apps interchangeable in order to flow easily from device to device.

The putative “2-in-1” might be the first of its line to run on either the Kirin X70 or even the X90 of the MateBook Fold.

On the other hand, Huawei has not updated its MateBook E series since 2023, as they seem to have become overtaken by the keyboard-enabled MatePad line over the last few years. The latest version of these tablets is also graced with a PaperMatte panel for its 11.5-inch screen.
