Man arrested for abusive remarks against CM Maryam amid lahore rains

Punjab police have arrested an elderly man after a video went viral on social media, showing him using offensive language against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and senior government officials.

The video, recorded during this week’s heavy rains in Lahore, shows the man venting frustration over the city’s poor drainage system. He is heard harshly criticising the provincial leadership for its failure to manage the situation.

Following his arrest, the man issued a public apology, saying, “I apologise to the government of Pakistan for my actions.”

On Thursday, torrential rainfall lashed Lahore, flooding several low-lying areas. The downpour began around 5:00 am and lasted until 11:30 am, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Tragically, a child lost his life due to electrocution while bathing in rainwater pooled in an empty plot near Lari Adda.

Nishtar Town recorded the heaviest rainfall at 182mm, with water entering homes in localities like Dharampura, Shah Jamal, and Choburji. Dozens of vehicles and motorcycles were left stranded in submerged underpasses and major roads.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued monsoon activity in the region until July 13.
