PTI slams jail conditions and economic policies, urges Chief Justice to intervene

PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram has issued a scathing critique of Adiala Jail authorities, accusing them of ignoring court directives and undermining the justice system. He called on the Chief Justice to take urgent notice, labelling the situation “a mockery of justice.”

Speaking at a press conference, Waqas alleged that senior PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid is being denied proper medical treatment due to her political rivalry with Nawaz Sharif. He also expressed concern over the treatment of Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former Punjab Governor Umar Cheema, claiming they are being subjected to inhumane conditions in custody.

Turning to the disqualification of Jamshed Dasti, Waqas criticized the Election Commission, accusing it of targeting opposition figures to suppress dissent. He confirmed that PTI’s legal team is actively reviewing the disqualification.

On the economic front, Waqas highlighted the steep rise in inflation, noting that petrol prices have surged by 82% in the past 15 months, while sugar prices have hit Rs 200 per kilogram. He blamed the government’s export policies for triggering artificial shortages and creating a crisis that benefits powerful mafias.

“During PTI’s tenure, petrol was Rs 150 and sugar was Rs 86 per kg. Today, prices have nearly doubled, crushing the middle class,” he said.

Waqas concluded by reaffirming the importance of August 5, stating it was a direct and unambiguous instruction from PTI founder Imran Khan.
