Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham appeared to tease a potential reunion with cryptic Instagram posts.
Completing each other’s…
Dig deeper:
On Thursday, Nicks, 77, shared an Instagram post that read: “And if you go forward…,” which may be referring to the lyrics from “Frozen Love,” a song the band released in 1973.
At the same time, Buckingham, 75, appeared to complete the sentence with his own post on Instagram that read, “I’ll meet you there.”
Fans immediately went wild, asking, “What’s going on???” and what the apparent coordinated posts meant.
Nicks and Buckingham also reposted a video that former bandmate, Mike Fleetwood, shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, July 16.
Fleetwood is seen in the video listening to “Frozen Love” outdoors and simply captioned the post, “Magic then, magic now.
One fan wrote, “Mick posts, Lindsey likes, AND Stevie likes…. Don’t. Toy. With. Us. We’re fragile.”
Tumultuous history
The backstory:
Buckingham joined the band with then-girlfriend Nicks in 1974 and the two became the central faces, voices and songwriters of the group for the four decades that followed.
During the band’s heydays and in the last few years, Buckingham and Nicks have had some highs and lows.
In 1976, the pair broke up and Rolling Stone previously reported Buckingham’s antics worsened during their 1980 tour for “Tusk.” Buckingham mocked Nicks onstage, kicked her and reportedly threw a Les Paul guitar at her head. He has since said he doesn’t remember the incidents.
After several reunions and tours, Buckingham was somewhat unceremoniously booted from the band in 2018 over alleged friction with his fellow band members, especially Nicks.
The ensuing split led to a lawsuit between Buckingham and the band that was eventually settled out of court. He was replaced with Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Despite this, it seemed many people (fans and former bandmates) wanted the pair to reconcile.
What they’re saying:
In July 2024, Fleetwood said he hoped Nicks and Buckingham would be able to put their differences aside.
“It’s no secret, it’s no tittle-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally,” Fleetwood said during an interview with MOJO.
He continued, “Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey. But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.”
The other side:
In 2023, following the death of band member Christine McVie in 2022, Nicks said she couldn’t imagine the group touring anymore.
“When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her,” Nicks told Vulture at the time. “You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.”
