Main Event preview
The UFC is in the bayou for the first time in 10 years, and it’s a fitting main event to match the occasion. The trilogy has arrived for BMF Champion Max “Blessed” Holloway against Louisiana’s own Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, who will retire after tonight’s fight.
He owns this rivalry, notching a submission against Holloway at UFC 243, followed by a unanimous decision at UFC 236.
Poirier’s resume (30-9-1NC) is a phenomenal tribute to his craft, earning 15 post-fight performance bonuses and 10 Fight of the Night honors. He has only gone to a decision nine times in 40 professional fights. Holloway has faced the best of the best in the lightweight division, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, among others.
The Diamond’s last fight ended with a submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 back on June 1, 2024.
Holloway (26-8-0), a bruising striker, is coming off a featherweight loss via knockout to the undefeated Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 back on Oct. 26, 2024. He looks to regroup with a three-inch advantage in height and reach. These two have a knack for putting on a bloodbath. Expect a fitting brutal conclusion to a storied lightweight rivalry.
After dropping four of his last five matches, Brazilian Paulo “The Eraser” Costa looks to snap out of a funk against Roman Kopylov in a middleweight co-main event. His last victory came at UFC 278 against Luke Rockhold on Aug. 20, 2022.
With six years in the business under his belt, Kopylov has failed to reach the top 10 in the division, but he is close. After winning six of his last seven middleweight bouts, he is currently No. 14 while Costa is No. 13. This is a crucial must-win for the Russian to creep into the 185-pound title picture.
Durability will be key as the Costa is shown to have the advantage while Kopylov tends to run out of gas in the closing rounds.
