Sindh launches Rs1.4bn IT training program for 35,000 youth

The Sindh government has officially launched the second phase of its flagship People’s IT Program (PITP), aiming to equip 35,000 young individuals with cutting-edge digital skills in line with global industry demands.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the launch on Sunday, stating that Rs1.4 billion has been allocated for Phase II of the program. The initiative, he said, underscores the provincial government’s commitment to empowering youth through digital education and modern skill development.

The People’s IT Program, launched under the Information Science and Technology Department, has already made significant strides. In its first phase, 13,565 students were trained in advanced IT disciplines, with 300 high achievers awarded Google Chromebooks and laptops as recognition of their excellence.

“PITP has emerged as a model digital initiative and reflects our vision to integrate Sindh’s youth into the global digital economy,” Memon remarked. He emphasized that the second phase will offer training across 12 in-demand digital sectors, enhancing the employability of the province’s young population.

The initiative is designed to bridge the digital divide by offering free and accessible IT education to undergraduates and graduates — particularly those from non-ICT backgrounds with basic computer knowledge. Courses will be taught by ICT faculty and industry professionals, focusing on emerging technologies and soft skills required for the modern workplace.

Key objectives of the PITP include:

Training 10,000+ youth per year in Sindh
Promoting digital literacy to foster inclusivity
Aligning course content with industry requirements
Enhancing job readiness in the IT sector
Generating local employment and contributing to economic growth
Minister Memon hailed the program as a cornerstone of educational reform in Sindh, aimed at building a digitally skilled workforce and fostering socio-economic development across the province.
