Elder Scrolls creator confirms terminal cancer diagnosis

It’s heartbreaking news

Best known for being one of the original creators and designers in The Elder Scrolls franchise, one key developer has revealed a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Joining Bethesda in the late 80s and offering his talents to the likes of some iconic games such as Terminator 2029 and multiple entries in The Elder Scrolls series, Julian LeFay has revealed the sad news of his terminal diagnosis.

LeFay has been living with cancer for multiple years now but more recently, OnceLost Games CEO and close friend Ted Peterson spoke out about the changes to LeFay’s health.

“Our technical producer, Julian LeFay, has been fighting a battle with cancer for the last several years. He’s fought bravely and strongly, but it seems he doesn’t have very much time left,” Peterson revealed.

“He has stepped away from that project to spend his remaining time with his family and loved ones. We don’t want to focus on the loss, but rather celebrate the last.

“We’ll have more details on how it affects the project but do rest assured that it is something that we’ve been preparing for,” he continued.

“Julian has made his vision for the game very clear to the team and we will work tirelessly to bring that vision to life.”

After leaving Bethesda in 1998, LeFay went on to co-found the OnceLost Games studio in 2019.

It is with this studio that the developer worked on OnceLost’s first title The Wayward Realms, an RPG which will be reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.

Despite the heartbreaking news, LeFay’s memory will continue to live on in the video game series he gave his heart and soul to.

That is because a likeness of LeFay can be found in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered via the in-game deity Julianos.

The statue can be found in a chapel in Skingrad.

We hope that LeFay can spend his last days on earth with his loved ones, knowing that fans all over the world appreciate all that he offered to the video game world.
