The New Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech 45

With the case designed for extremes and a dial that prioritises legibility, the new Fifty Fathoms Tech-line is as much a tool underwater as a fun piece on the beach. This year, Blancpain unleashes its technical spirit for everyday adventure with the latest Fifty Fathoms Tech, the first Tech model to enter the permanent collection, and the first to prove that a no-compromise diver can add a playful splash of colour without compromising its seriousness underwater.

When Blancpain launched the original Fifty Fathoms in 1953, it also established the blueprint for the modern dive watch. Over seventy years later, that great concept is alive and well and in recent years Blancpain has shown how far it’s willing to push its legacy: the 2023 Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa celebrated the line’s 70th anniversary by asking what the Fifty Fathoms would look like if it were created today. It came with a bold, modernised 47 mm diver with a new 3-hour immersion bezel for deep technical exploration.

Then came the Fifty Fathoms Tech Ocean Commitment IV, which refined the concept, retaining the same cutting-edge engineering but packaged in a slightly more wearable, mission-driven edition that championed Blancpain’s continued ocean conservation work.

The new Fifty Fathoms Tech takes after the Tech Ocean Commitment IV and features a 45mm by 14.1mm case crafted from Grade 23 titanium. This lightweight material is hypoallergenic and exceptionally corrosion-resistant, exactly what you want for a dive watch. It’s equipped with a helium escape valve for saturation diving, a unidirectional 120-click rotating bezel with a ceramic insert, and a sapphire crystal front and back. Water resistance is 300m, more than enough for professional use.

True to its mission-first design, the dial features an “absolute black” surface, engineered to absorb up to 97% of ambient light, which is crucial for legibility in low-visibility dives. Large block-shaped applied indices, with numerals at cardinal positions, are filled with Super-LumiNova and glow brightly below the surface, while the central seconds hand and “TECH” inscription above 6′ pop in bright orange, adding a functional highlight and a nod to the new strap options.

Inside is Blancpain’s calibre 1315A, an automatic movement with three barrels delivering a full 120-hour (5-day) power reserve. The calibre is equipped with a silicon balance spring for anti-magnetic performance, and operates at a 28,800vph. Traditional fine finishing is visible through the sapphire display back.

The watch comes standard with two high-quality rubber straps; customers are free to choose between the classic black, crisp white or vivid orange for a bold, summery twist that pairs perfectly with the dial accents. White is a must-have, in our opinion, making it hard not to include both black and orange as well. Blancpain also offers various lengths to ensure optimal fit.

One of the key upgrades for 2025 is the introduction of a new interchangeable strap system. For the first time in the Tech line, the Fifty Fathoms Tech makes swapping straps easy and tool-free. Available now as a permanent part of the Fifty Fathoms collection, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech is priced at CHF 19,000.
