Como to be Barça’s opponents in the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy

Como 1907, the Italian Serie A club of former blaugranes Cesc Fàbregas and Sergi Roberto, will be Barça’s opponents in the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, “Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm” which will be played on 10 August at 9pm CEST at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Initially, the fixture was to be played at Spotify Camp Nou but finally it will be the Estadi Johan Cruyff which will be the venue for the game, just as it was in 2021 when the Barça men’s and women’s teams faced Juventus in a double header that saw Barça Women take part in the Club’s official tournament for the very first time.

Team presentation

The game against Como will also feature the presentation of Hansi Flick’s squad as part of the “Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm” and will come after the squad’s three friendly games on their Asian Tour against Vissel Kobe in Japan and against FC Seoul and Daegu FC in South Korea. The game against Como will also be the team’s final test ahead of the start of official competition in La Liga which comes at Mallorca on Saturday 16 August.

The game will be a historic one as it will see the two sides meet for the very first time in Barça’s 125-year history and the Italian club’s 118-year history.

Ninth Italian club

Como will be the ninth Italian club to take part in the Joan Gamper Trophy. In its 50 previous editions, 14 have seen the presence of teams from Serie A: Sampdoria and AC Milan on three occasions each, FC Internazionale and Juventus twice each and one appearance from Napoli, Parma, AS Roma and Brescia.

Como were one of the revelations of Serie A in 2024/25, finishing the season in 10th place on their return to the topflight after an absence of 21 years. The club has strong blaugrana links with former Barça man Cesc Fàbregas coach and former Barça man Sergi Roberto, who joined Como in August 2024 after 18 years at FC Barcelona. The Italian club’s squad also contains defender Àlex Valle, a La Masia product who made an appearance for the first team in a friendly game.
