Basel is Switzerland’s third most populated city and sits in the north-west of the country, right on the River Rhine. The city is close to the border of both France and Germany.
With its proximity to the Rhine, summer time often sees locals swimming in the river.
In terms of sightseeing in Basel, the two main landmarks are the Mittlere Brücke (Middle Bridge) and the Basler Münster (Basel Cathedral) which is a magnificent piece of architecture with red walls, colourful roof tiles and twin towers which dominate the centre of Basel.
If museums are of interest, then Basel has around 40, the most of any Swiss city. These include museums dedicated to art, anatomy, medicine and cartoons. The city also stages the annual Art Basel fair, which brings collectors from around the world to Switzerland.
England fans in Basel can attend the Fan Zones at both Barfüsserplatz and Messeplatz, where there’s something for everyone!
At Barfüsserplatz, you can watch the game and enjoy live music and a DJ as well as enjoy food and drink, whereas Messeplatz features a more active offering such as a water park and slide and a football pitch!
