The Sehat Card Plus (SCP) programme, introduced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the 2018 elections, has transformed the province’s healthcare landscape, earning widespread appreciation for its inclusivity and accessibility. Designed to ensure that every resident has access to quality medical care without financial strain, the programme has significantly impacted lives across the region.
By removing traditional healthcare barriers, the SCP enables both government and private hospitals to offer essential medical services to patients, regardless of their income level. Its reach has extended beyond any specific demographic, catering to youth, women, the elderly, and those in remote areas with equal effectiveness.
Marium, a resident of KP, shared her experience:
“I never thought I’d be able to afford knee surgery. Thanks to Sehat Card Plus, I received timely medical attention and underwent the procedure without any financial burden. It’s a game-changer for people like me.”
Similarly, Kalsoom Begum, an elderly woman from the region, expressed gratitude after receiving free eye surgery at a private hospital under the programme.
“When I heard about free operations being performed through Sehat Card Plus, I decided to go for it. The support was beyond anything I expected,” she said.
Ali Khan of Saidu Sharif described how the programme saved his life.
“It’s not about politics — it’s about our health and future. I underwent heart surgery that I could never afford on my own. This initiative has brought real change to our lives.”
Medical professionals in the province also acknowledge the programme’s contribution. Dr Farhan, a physician practicing in KP, noted,
“The Sehat Card Plus has revolutionised healthcare accessibility. For many, it’s the first time quality treatment has felt within reach.”
The true strength of the Sehat Card Plus lies in its human impact. Beyond numbers and systems, it has restored hope, dignity, and health to thousands across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As the programme continues to expand, it stands as a testament to what inclusive and people-centered healthcare can achieve.
