Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios Soar High in Pokémon GO’s Max Battle Weekend

Two new Dynamax Pokémon are making their Pokémon GO debuts during the Pokémon GO Max Battle Weekend taking place from July 26 at 6:00 a.m. to July 27, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time. Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios will appear in five-star Max Battles, and Trainers might even encounter a Shiny Latias or Latios—if they’re lucky. But these Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in Hoenn are going to put up a fight, so prepare your battle team before the event kicks off to maximize your effectiveness.

Max out your Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios Max Battle Weekend with the following event bonuses.

  • Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600

  • 1/4 Adventuring distance to receive Max Particles

  • Power Spots will refresh more frequently

  • 8× Max Particles from Power Spots

  • 3/4 Max Particle cost for unlocking and powering up Max Moves (from July 21 at 6:00 a.m. to July 27, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time)

Event Timed Research opportunities kick off July 21, 2025, starting at 6:00 a.m. local time. You don’t have eons—this research must be completed before July 27, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time to earn an encounter with Dynamax Gastly, which would make an excellent counter against Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios when evolved into Dynamax Gengar.

As Dragon- and Psychic-type Pokémon, Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios have a lengthy list of vulnerabilities including Bug-, Dark-, Dragon-, Fairy-, Ghost-, and Ice-type attacks. In Max Battles, Trainers are mostly limited to using Max Pokémon, and while you don’t need to use a Pokémon of one of those types, you’ll benefit by paying attention to your battle team’s G-Max or Max Move types.

For Dynamax Pokémon, their Max Move attack type matches the Pokémon’s Fast Attack type, so make sure your Dynamax Pokémon know a Bug-, Dark-, Dragon-, Fairy-, Ghost-, or Ice-type Fast Attack. Gigantamax Pokémon have a fixed G-Max Move, so it’s best to factor that into your decision about which Gigantamax Pokémon to bring into your Dynamax Latias and Dynamax Latios battles.

Pokémon that you might consider for your Max Battle weekend include the following Dynamax Pokémon: Butterfree, Gengar, Articuno, Sableye, Cryogonal, and Greedent. Gigantamax Gengar is also a great choice offensively, but its Poison typing makes it vulnerable to Psychic-type attacks. Don’t forget to evolve and power up your Pokémon and their moves before the event kicks off.

Have a dynamite weekend, Trainers!
