Barely 24 hours after leading Japan to victory in the men’s artistic gymnastics team final, Hashimoto Daiki claimed the invidual gold medal in the all-around on Friday (24 July) at the FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
The Tokyo 2020 champion took the gold with a score of 84.265, while compatriot Shohei Kawakami (81.723) won silver and Canada’s Paris 2024 Olympian William Emard (80.298) came through with the bronze. Australia’s Jesse Moore just missed out on a medal with a score of 80.298 in fourth.
The 23-year-old Hashimoto’s highest score came from the vault, where he achieved an impressive 14.400.
At 19, Hashimoto became the youngest Olympic champion in the men’s all-around when he won gold at Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021) before going on to become a two-time world champion in the individual event.
After an unsuccessful title defence at Paris 2024, he recovered to help Japan to the men’s team gold.
