Nyck de Vries looked comfortable around the London ExCel on Saturday morning, as the former World Champion went quickest in Free Practice 2. After missing Berlin with a prior work commitment, it was a great way to get back to business for himself and Mahindra Racing.

He was joined in the top five by Mitch Evans, who was throwing his Jaguar TCS Racing around the track and was just 0.043s behind de Vries at the chequered flag. Dan Ticktum was third for CUPRA KIRO, with TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein fourth and Maserati MSG Racing’s Jake Hughes doing a solid job to round out the top five.
As it happened…
The second practice session of the weekend got underway at 10:00 local time, with the Envision Racing pair of Robin Frijns and Sebastien Buemi looking quick early on. However, as the session continued the times kept falling and soon they were quicker than yesterday with de Vries the quickest overall with 1m07.521s.
As the session continued, drivers made the most of the session to push their cars to the limits. Sam Bird had an early spin for NEOM McLaren, blaming cold tyres for the error. Maximilian Guenther also found himself on the kerbs during his laps, using all the track that he could in his DS PENSKE with Frijns and Jake Dennis (Andretti) also having spins towards the end of the 40 minute session.
In the final ten minutes, we started to see some qualifying simulations take place but it didn’t shake up the order too much with Nyck de Vries who was top of the times. He was followed by Evans, who will be hoping to continue the momentum of his victory in Berlin, as well as the Porsche-powered Ticktum third.
