Xiaomi has reportedly stopped working on HyperOS 2, which first launched as an Android 15 skin. Of course, with the recent 2.3 update, the company did bring Android 16 to some select devices, but it’s HyperOS 3 that will bring some major changes.
This change in the development means that there won’t be any major improvement-focused updates under the HyperOS 2 label. As for the next big update, Xiaomi has yet to confirm the specific stable release date of HyperOS 3, but a handful of last-gen phones are expected to get the upcoming Android 16 update.
Speaking of which, Xiaomi has newly listed the end-of-life dates for multiple phones. The freshly added smartphones will get their last security patch in September 2025, and after that, there won’t be any official updates available for them. Among these newly added devices are:
- Redmi A1
- Redmi A1+
- Redmi 11 Prime 4G
- Poco C50
- Poco M5
- Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
- Xiaomi 11 Lite LE
- Xiaomi 11T
- Xiaomi 11T Pro
Most of these devices didn’t even receive the HyperOS 2 update, which means they are clearly off the supported HyperOS 3 list. The upcoming Android 16 update for Xiaomi devices is expected to bring a refined UI that will seemingly be geared toward offering an optimized user experience.
The system performance is expected to improve with the update as well, with enhanced visual effects and smoother transitions than on HyperOS 2. Xiaomi is rumored to start the beta testing phase of HyperOS 3 later this year, and the stable version will likely be introduced with the Xiaomi 16 series.
