It looks like more PlayStation games are going to be coming to Xbox, following Helldivers 2’s launch next month.
Sony will be launching Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X/S on 26th August, a first time for the publisher in an effort to close the gap on console exclusivity.
Ahead of Helldivers 2’s launch, however, it seems that we’ve just had confirmation that more PlayStation 5 games will be arriving on the Microsoft platform.
A new job listing at Sony Interactive Entertainment has suggested that the company is looking to expand on other platforms, including the likes of Xbox and Nintendo.
“You will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware,” reads the job overview, “including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile.”
Considering Sony is releasing Helldivers 2 on Xbox consoles next month, it would seem weird for the company to stop there.
There are likely other games lined up for a potential release on Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2.
As for what those games may be, we’d say for now to not get your hopes up. It’s very unlikely Sony would want to port over The Last of Us, God of War, or Horizon Zero Dawn to Xbox Series X/S. At least at the moment.
However, it’s more likely the focus might be on live service titles. This would bring in a more regular revenue stream for Sony, and with the added potential of crossplay, it would mean a larger community for the games.
Although the company allegedly cancelled a load of live service games earlier this year, we know that it isn’t done with live service games yet. Fairgame$, Marathon, and an unannounced Horizon MMO are still in development.
At any rate, closing the gap on console exclusivity can only be a good thing, as more players get to play new games across all manner of platforms.
