Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing allegations of “looking for some handouts” from King Charles following reports that their lucrative Netflix deal may be coming to an end. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have been tied to a $100 million contract with Netflix, might see this partnership dissolve as early as September.
As the couple braces for a potential financial blow, with Netflix allegedly dissatisfied with the viewership numbers for shows like Polo, one Royal expert believes that this impending loss could be behind the recent “peace summit” held earlier in the month. This meeting involved two of the couple’s aides and a senior aide to King Charles.
Earlier reports indicated that Tobyn Andreae, the communications director for the King and Queen, met informally with Sussex aides Meredith Maines and Liam Maguire, with photos capturing the trio together in London.
While the specifics of their conversation remain undisclosed, journalist and author Robert Jobson speculates that the possible termination of Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, from their Netflix agreement might have influenced the discussion.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jobson remarked: “Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn’t it?”, reports the Express.
“Maybe that’s why they were over with their staff, were over here having discussions with the King. I don’t know.”
Neither Prince Harry, who stepped back from Royal duties in 2020, nor King Charles attended the meeting with their aides.
It is thought instead that they authorized the discussions to occur.
This development follows Prince Harry’s statement to the BBC a few months ago, where he mentioned that his father “won’t speak” to him and expressed his desire to mend ties with his Royal family members.
