Action-adventure comedy “Masala Boba” has officially become the first film collaboration between Taiwan and Jordan, marking a historic milestone for both countries’ entertainment industries.
The project, which was launched at the Cannes market earlier this year, recently received formal backing from the Taiwan Government Film Commission. A letter of intent signing with the commission’s leadership has cemented Taiwan’s commitment to the production.
“We are thrilled to support ‘Masala Boba,’ a film that brings cultures together and showcases the vibrant talent in Taiwan while connecting us with new global audiences,” said Jennifer Jao, vice chair and director of the Taipei Film Commission.
Raja Gargour, executive commissioner of the Royal Film Commission Jordan, added: “We are excited about this unique collaboration between Jordan and Taiwan, a first of its kind, bringing together the creative strengths and diverse landscapes of our countries. ‘Masala Boba’ is a testament to the power of cinema to connect cultures and inspire audiences around the world.”
The film is being produced by Taiwan’s Light House Productions and India’s Kleos Entertainment Group – following their upcoming Taiwan-India action-comedy “Demon Hunters” – with Uzair Merchant attached to direct.
“This film represents the spirit of creative adventure and authentic cross-cultural storytelling that Light House Productions stands for,” said Cindy Shyu, CEO of Light House Productions.
Gayathiri Guliani, founder of Kleos Entertainment Group, added: “‘Masala Boba’ is more than a film; it’s a cultural handshake between Taiwan and Jordan, creating a pathway for future collaborations while delivering a universally engaging story.”
Currently in pre-production, “Masala Boba” will bring together talent, locations, and cultures from Taiwan, Jordan, India, and other regions. Principal photography is due to begin in mid-2026.
Merchant said: “We are telling a story that is fun, emotional, and action-filled, yet rooted in the universal themes of friendship and love, all while celebrating the diversity and energy of these two incredible regions.”
