Alex Morgan, Alyssa Naeher to be honoured during USWNT games in October

U.S. soccer legend Alex Morgan will have a full-circle moment this autumn.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist and two-time World Cup champion will be honoured on 23 October at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania – the same stadium where Morgan scored the first of her 123 international goals for Team USA back in 2010.

The U.S. national team will face Portugal in Chester before meeting them again days later in East Hartford, Connecticut. That game will honour Alyssa Naeher, who retired from international soccer last year.

“Portugal is a growing team that will be highly motivated for these matches, but as always, these three games are more opportunities to work on us,” head coach Emma Hayes said in a U.S. Soccer press release. “I’m very impressed with the progress we’ve made since the Olympics and I want to give a lot of credit to the players for embracing our culture and ideas, but our staff and the players know we still have much work to do before World Cup qualifying next year.”

The USWNT will then head to a third October match in Kansas City against a yet-to-be-named opponent. That match will be held on 29 October.
