Adnan Zaki accepts a 2-year period of ineligibility for anti- doping rule violation

The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of World Triathlon, reports that Syrian triathlete Adnan ZAKI has accepted a two-year sanction after testing positive for the prohibited substance 5 methylhexan-2-amine (1,4-dimethylpentylamine).

The ITA reports that triathlete Adnan Zaki has agreed 1 to the consequences for his anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).

Adnan Zaki provided a sample collected under the testing authority of World Triathlon during an unannouced in-competiton doping control performed on 14 September 2024 during the 2024 Asia Triathlon Cup Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgystan, which yielded an adverse analytical finding 2 (AAF) for 5-methylhexan-2-amine (1,4-dimethylpentylamine).

5-methylhexan-2-amine (1,4-dimethylpentylamine) is listed under class S6. Stimulants according to the prohibited list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is prohibited in-competition and is classified as a specified substance. This substance notably improves concentration and alertness, increases energy levels and endurance and accelerates the metabolism.
When notified of the case, the athlete accepted a voluntary provisional suspension.

The athlete did not challenge the ADRV and agreed with the consequences proposed by the ITA. Accordingly, the case was resolved via and acceptance of consequences.

The athlete’s period of ineligibility is from 12 November 2024 until 11 November 2026. In addition, all the athlete’s competitive results as from 14 September 2024 are disqualified.

The decision may be challenged before the appeal division of the Court of Arbitration of Sport by the parties with a right of appeal in accordance with Article 13.2.3 of the World Triathlon anti- doping rules.

The ITA or World Triathlon will not comment further on this case.
