Maxima Rapida Battery-Powered LED Spotlight Released – Compact, Bi-Color, Cable-Free

Maxima has released the Rapida, a compact, battery-powered, LED spotlight that weighs just 1.8 kg and supports direct V-Mount operation. It supports bi-color output from 2600K to 6800K, is rated IP54 for weather resistance, and reaches a maximum output of 23,000 lumens. Few lights in this category offer a truly integrated design with no ballast or external cables. Here’s a closer look at what the Rapida brings to the table!

Maxima is an Italian company that takes an ethical, “sustainable manufacturing” approach to their products. As with their Maxima 6 GaN Light, the Rapida reflects this commitment with an energy-efficient design, a zero-waste additive manufacturing process, and composite non-conductive materials.

Fast transition between power sources

The Rapida runs at full brightness whether plugged into AC or powered by a V-Mount battery, with no difference in output. Switching between the two takes just a few seconds and doesn’t require any adapters, external ballast, or power-down.  With the right battery specs (10A at 14.8V or 8A at 26V), it can run at full output for close to an hour on a 145 Wh pack. (Batteries that fall short may cause the light to malfunction or risk damage to the fixture or battery, so your battery’s specs should be checked.) Maxima’s patented thermal design regulates heat, extends runtime, and minimizes energy use. It’s one of the few battery lights in this class built for battery-first operation, without the usual trade-offs.

Light output and color quality

The Rapida delivers up to 23,000 lumens with a luminous efficacy of 115 lm/W. You can adjust the color temperature from 2600K to 6800K, and it has a TLCI rating of 99. At one meter, it produces approximately 850 lux when used with the Maxima Fresnel in spot mode. These specs place it in the mid-power COB category, but the Rapida stands out for its compact design and cable-free operation. It’s not the brightest option available, but its emphasis on precision and consistency makes it well suited to mobile work, where speed and space often matter more than sheer output.

Compact build and onboard control

At just 31 cm (12.2 inches) long and weighing only 1.8 kg (4 lbs), the Rapida is small enough to carry in a backpack or mount on lightweight stands, booms, or overhead rigs. It comes with a 13-point cheese plate and PivotMount 2.0 for flexible placement. In line with Maxima’s zero-waste process, the housing is made from composite, non-conductive materials and rated IP54 for protection from dust and light rain. The Rapida supports Profoto modifiers directly and can be used with Bowens and other systems via an adapter.

Basic controls are built into the body, with physical dials for adjusting intensity and color temperature. For more advanced settings or remote access, the Maxima app (iOS/Android) connects via Bluetooth, giving users full control from a phone or tablet.

PivotMount in practice – a streamlined alternative

The Rapida comes equipped with Maxima’s new PivotMount, a streamlined alternative to traditional yoke mounts. A single locking handle controls the entire tilt mechanism, making it faster to adjust, especially when the light is rigged on boom poles or in tight spaces. The mount provides a full 180° range of motion and doubles as a handheld grip for mobile shooting and is compatible with C-stands, 16mm baby spigots, and 28mm TV mounts, which makes it easy to integrate into an existing kit.
