The Women’s Open Golf Championship 2025 gets under way at Royal Porthcawl on Thursday 31 July in what is a historic first for Wales.

The British major, which is a feature of both the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour calendars, is taking place for the first time on Welsh soil, at Royal Porthcawl, a links course on the south coast, just west of Cardiff.

Paris 2024 champion Lydia Ko is the defending champion of the British Women’s Open, having won at St. Andrews last year.

Chasing her fifth major overall, Ko faces competition from an open field, including Mao Saigo, Maja Stark, Minjee Lee, and Grace Kim – who have each all won a major already this year.

A midway cut is due to reduce the number of players at the halfway stage. The champion will be crowned on Sunday, 3 August, bringing the curtain down on golf majors for 2025.
