Commercial satellites ‘interfering’ with space research

Radio emissions could disrupt work of the planned Square Kilometre Array observatory, say researchers

The private satellite internet firm Starlink’s thousands of satellites are “significantly interfering” with radio astronomy and posing a threat to research, according to a study from Curtin University.

The report, released on 23 July, finds that low-frequency radio emissions from satellites may cause issues for the planned Square Kilometre Array observatory, part of which is currently being constructed in Western Australia.
