Düsseldorf, Germany, is to host the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) announced on Thursday (31 July).
The 12th edition of the biannual event, taking place from 13-16 August, will be held at Düsseldorf’s dedicated flag football field, which was unveiled earlier this year.
“This will be a game-changing edition of the Flag Football World Championships, a landmark moment for the sport and for our global community. Düsseldorf’s strong connection to American football and passionate fan base make it an exceptional host for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships,” said Pierre Trochet, President of IFAF.
In all, 16 men’s and women’s teams are expected to compete in the showpiece event, having earned their berths through the continental qualifiers across 2025.
The Championships are also expected to mark a significant first step for those hoping to join the road to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, where the sport is set to make its Olympic debut.
