With the Tokyo championships set to be the 38-year old’s last Worlds in her illustrious career, she’s approaching each competition with a new mindset, where she appreciates showing up just as much as winning a medal.
“Four or five years ago, I would never tell anybody that the fact that I showed up to do another championships is a win,” Fraser-Pryce said.
“Wins are usually hardware, something tangible but for me, I think just showing up after everything is really a win,” she concluded.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opened her season at Velocity Fest #17, cruising to victory in the heats before joining Jamaica’s 4x100m relay squad for the World Athletics Relays. There, she helped the team finish second in the heats and secure a bronze medal in the final—clinching qualification for the World Championships later this year.
The sprint icon then returned to the Diamond League stage in Doha, where she finished fourth in a tightly contested 100m, narrowly missing out on the podium.
