Independence Day celebrations begin across Punjab

On the special directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, province-wide celebrations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day have commenced with fervour, dignity, and national pride.

In her official statement, CM Maryam Nawaz stated that this year’s celebrations will centre on youth and children, with a strong emphasis on themes such as patriotism, cultural heritage, truth, and the true spirit of freedom. She instructed that special video messages from children, national heroes, celebrities, and sports personalities be featured throughout the celebrations.

This year’s theme, “From the Acquisition of Independence to the Protection of Independence,” reflects Pakistan’s symbolic triumph in the “Battle of Truth Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” highlighting the ongoing importance of defending national sovereignty.

A series of events are already underway across Punjab from August 1 to August 14. The main ceremony on August 14 will be held at Hazuri Bagh, where CM Maryam Nawaz will raise the national flag. She will also inaugurate the Battle of Truth Park, Museum, and Memorial at Lahore’s Expo Centre to honour Pakistan’s ongoing struggle for truth and justice.

Public engagement is at the heart of the campaign, with widespread flag-hoisting initiatives, building illuminations, and decorations in homes, shops, and offices. Roadshows and cultural floats will also highlight the country’s diverse traditions.

A fireworks and laser show at Minar-e-Pakistan is scheduled for August 9, with similar displays planned at divisional and tehsil levels. Flag-hoisting ceremonies at the Chief Minister’s Office and other government institutions will be held on August 10, followed by motorcycle rallies on August 13.

The chief minister also paid glowing tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, especially under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, praising their unmatched role in defending the nation’s freedom.

She urged all citizens to take active part in the Independence Day festivities, calling it a moment to present a united and resilient image of Pakistan to the world.
