World Triathlon is pleased to announce that the process to nominate new Athletes Committee representatives is now open, and nominations can be sent until 31 August 2025, 23:59 CEST. Candidates may be any athlete over 18 years of age who has had points on the World Triathlon Rankings or World Triathlon Para Rankings during the past four years.
The role of athletes in the decision-making process of World Triathlon has been a fundamental principle of our organisation since its creation in Avignon, France, in 1989. The inclusion of elected athletes on the World Triathlon Executive Board has strengthened the role of the athletes and is an integral part of our continued success as an International Federation striving to be ‘athlete-centred’.
The roles and responsibilities of the Athletes’ Committee are to:

Empower Athlete Representation in World Triathlon decision-making processes. The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Athletes’ Committee are automatically members of the Executive Board, with a voting right each;

Support Athlete Development in their sporting and non-sporting careers;

Promote Athlete Involvement in decision-making across World Triathlon; and,
-
Ensure Athlete Representation in World Triathlon decision-making.
The Athletes’ Committee is elected for a mandate of 4 years and shall be composed of 10 members as follows:

A maximum of 5 athletes can be of the same gender;

Each of the 5 Continental Confederations shall have at least 1 representative;

2 members shall be Para triathletes, each from a different gender and 8 shall be Elite athletes, with a maximum of 4 from the same gender;

The newly elected Athletes’ Committee will elect among themselves the Chair and Vice-Chair, who shall represent 2 different Continental Confederations and shall be of different genders.
Who can be a candidate for election?

Athletes must be at least 18 years of age and have the power under law to contract;

Athletes who have recorded points on the World Triathlon Rankings or World Triathlon Para Rankings during the past 4 years;

Athletes who are nominated by their Member National Federation. Per the Constitution 30.6. Members may nominate only 1 candidate for each position.

How to nominate an athlete for elections?

Athletes must be nominated by their Member National Federation President or Secretary General.

Each Athlete nominated by their Member National Federation will automatically receive by email a Candidate Form. The Candidate Form must be completed prior to the cutoff to be considered by the Credentials Committee for the Athletes Committee elections.

Who will be responsible for examining and validating the applications?
The Credentials Committee will examine and validate the nominations, in accordance with the Constitution and the Elections Rules & Procedures.

How to vote?

There will be 1 voting ballot.

The list will indicate: National Federation, Continent, athlete’s status (Elite athlete or Para triathlete) and the gender.

The voter can vote for candidates without any restriction (e.g. gender).
How will the athletes be elected?

Candidates with the most votes will be elected until all positions are covered, subject to the Continental representation, the Elite and Para representation and the gender representation.

In case of a tie between 2 or more candidates for the last position to be filled, another round of voting will take place only between the tied candidates. If there is another tie, the position will be filled by a draw of lots or by the flip of a coin.
Who will be responsible for monitoring the election process?
The Credentials Committee will monitor that the elections are run in accordance with the established process, the Constitution and the Elections Rules & Procedures.
Timeline
For the 2025 elections, the following timelines and procedures have been established in accordance with the Constitution.

Friday, 1 August, 2025: The election process begins and nomination forms will be distributed via email to all Member National Federations. Candidates may be any athlete over 18 years of age who has recorded points on the World Triathlon Rankings or World Triathlon Para Rankings during the past 4 years. List of eligible athletes.

Sunday, 31 August, 2025: The nominations must be sent before midnight (23:59 CEST) on the 31st of August.

Monday, 15 September, 2025: The election process will be open via an online, anonymous and secure voting for all athletes who have had recorded points on the World Triathlon Rankings or World Triathlon Para Rankings during the past 4 years. Each athlete previously mentioned is entitled to 1 vote.

Friday, 17 October, 2025: The voting will close at midnight (23:59 CEST).

Sunday, 19 October, 2025: The results of the elections for the Athletes’ Committee will be announced via a news release on triathlon.org.
