AMD’s second rumored X3D CPU is particularly intriguing. It is said to come with 16 cores, a TDP of 200W, and 192MB of L3 cache. Unlike the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, this CPU includes an AMD V-Cache chiplet on both of its 8-core CCDs. This setup grants each chiplet 96MB of L3 cache, resulting in a total of 192MB of L3 cache for the CPU. If it launches, this would mark the first dual-CCD AMD Ryzen X3D CPU featuring 3D V-Cache on both chiplets, making them ideal for gaming tasks.
Although there have been a handful of prototypes surfacing over time, none have reached retail. AMD has also recently dismissed the idea of Ryzen X3D CPUs with 3D V-Cache stacked on both dies, indicating economic challenges as the primary rationale, yet a niche may have emerged for these CPUs to enter the retail space.
It remains uncertain if or when AMD will unveil these new X3D gaming processors. This could serve as AMD’s response to Intel’s expected Arrow Lake Refresh. In any case, the introduction of new X3D CPUs would further solidify AMD’s dominance in the gaming CPU sector.
