Cockroach in parliament cafeteria food prompts contract termination by NA speaker

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has taken serious action after a disturbing incident involving a cockroach found in food served at the Parliament cafeteria.

Following the incident, the cafeteria management’s contract was immediately terminated. A spokesperson for the National Assembly confirmed the cancellation, stating it was ordered directly by the Speaker in response to growing concerns over hygiene and cleanliness.

The decision also extended to the termination of food services for parliamentary staff, underscoring a zero-tolerance policy toward negligence in food safety.

According to officials, the incident occurred about 10 days ago but came to public attention only recently after a video went viral on social media. The footage, recorded by a member of the assembly, showed multiple cockroaches crawling near bread served in the cafeteria.

The video sparked outrage among lawmakers, who voiced serious concerns over the unsanitary conditions in both the cafeteria and adjacent lobby areas.

In response, the Assembly administration has now awarded the food services contract to a new vendor with a solid reputation for hygiene standards, aiming to restore confidence in the facility.

The episode has drawn attention to basic sanitation issues within key government buildings, prompting calls for stricter oversight and accountability.
