With nine Olympic gold medals and a total of 14 Olympic podium finishes, Katie Ledecky has long been the gold standard in women’s swimming, and it turns out, her lunchtime routine might have had something to do with that.
In a recent interview with EatingWell, the U.S. swimming great revealed that omelettes are her go-to lunch almost every day.
“Once I find something that is working well, that keeps me fueled before and after practice, I’ll stick with it,” she said. “I found that with my omelet that I make myself in the middle of the day.
“Of course, I mix up what vegetables I’m throwing in.”
For Ledecky, a 23-time world champion, high-protein meals are key to fueling double training sessions and keeping her recovery on track. The mid-day egg dish, paired with toast and fiber-rich vegetables, delivers the balance she needs for sustained energy.
“I’ve been in the sport a long time,” she added. “You can’t have the same things every day, but when something works, I stick with it.”
While dinner is where she allows more variety, lunch is all about consistency, a reminder that champions are built not just in the gym or the pool, but also in the kitchen.
Because sometimes, gold starts with eggs.
