‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’: 64,000 interest-free loans disbursed in 7 months: CM Maryam

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated on Wednesday the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme would be cited as an example not just at home but abroad too.

Addressing a ceremony for the provision of interest-free loans under the program, the Punjab CM said she feels delighted that Almighty has granted her the honour of serving the people.

She said the Punjab government has launched a new project every day, and the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme is very close to her heart. She added that no one will have to hear, “Pay the rent or vacate the house,” as building a home for their children is every parent’s endeavor.

The Punjab CM stated that within a short period of seven months, 64,000 interest-free loans have been disbursed for home construction.

She mentioned that thousands of calls were received for the scheme, and while she couldn’t listen to all, she personally attended to hundreds. She described the 64,000 loans as unique stories, adding that by the end of August, this number would reach 75,000.

She said someone earning 35,000 monthly cannot afford to build a house, and this model would help the low income class.

On the rumours swirling on the internet, she challenged anyone to claim they received a loan through favouritism. She refuted allegations that the government focused only on Lahore, stating that loans are being provided across all cities in Punjab under the scheme.

She pledged to meet a target of 150,000 houses annually, noting that no government has provided 50,000 interest-free loans in six months. These loans were given on 100% merit, enabling labourers and workers who once carried bricks for others’ homes to now build their own.

Maryam Nawaz announced that the scheme will begin in 19 districts under phata, with 2,000 plots in the first phase. She stated that Pakistan’s leadership is in capable hands, with Nawaz Sharif constantly urging Shehbaz Sharif to reduce inflation for the people.

The CM said Punjab is progressing today, with people gaining employment and building homes.

She announced new schemes for Punjab, addressing water scarcity in some areas within a year, transforming 24,000 villages into model villages, and introducing 1,100 new electric buses with a fare of only 20 rupees.

She highlighted the formation of Crime Control Department (CCD) to crackdown on crime and noted a rapid decline in Punjab’s crime rate.

Maryam Nawaz concluded that the destiny of Punjab would be written by performance and service, not conspiracies.
