Lotus is the latest carmaker to upgrade CarPlay

British sports car maker Lotus is upgrading the CarPlay experience for iPhone users this week with a free software update.

Starting this week, Spatial Audio in CarPlay is available in the electric Eletre and Emeya models from Lotus. The update enhances Apple Music playback with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, powered by KEF’s premium in-car audio systems.

Pushing the boundaries of the in-car listening experience, ELETRE and EMEYA are equipped with ground-breaking technologies from legendary British audio brand KEF, bringing award-winning high-fidelity sound to every journey. Drivers can enjoy immersive 3D surround sound in Dolby Atmos through up to 23 speakers.

Spatial Audio in CarPlay brings more immersive, rich, and lifelike audio in the car with Apple Music, which offers an ever-growing selection of music in Spatial Audio from some of the world’s biggest artists spanning all genres, as well as curated Spatial Audio playlists. When playing Dolby Atmos content, the driver and passengers can feel the music move through every part of the cabin, revealing sensory-rich encounters of depth, clarity, and detail, allowing listeners to enjoy the music like never before.

Spatial Audio in CarPlay has slowly found its way to select vehicles by brands including Rivian, Polestar, and Lucid. CarPlay isn’t required in all cars to support Spatial Audio as some vehicles use a built-in Apple Music app.
